Since arriving at Carr’s Hill CL I have seen the distant Ochil Hills everyday on my early morning walk. They look a cracking range of hills and Lynnie has already correctly predicted that we will be wandering on them. It is a fine, but cool day so perfect to wander up high.

A Stroll Around Duns
Yesterday was another day of rest from walking. When I returned from my early stroll with the boys I was immediately reaching for the painkillers. I am beginning to think that the trek around the Three Peaks last week may have done some permanent damage and if it continues to give this much pain I will be seeking out a Doctor soon.
Lynnie took a very interesting tour of Paxton House whilst I settled down in the awning to do a days work. It was a productive day, but now I am itching to do some easy walking. I start to get a bit twitchy if I go too many days without a decent walk and part of the fun of travelling the way we do is the joy of visiting new places.

Knackered Knees
When I awoke this morning I initially thought that I had got away with yesterday’s grueling walk without too much damage. But as soon as I jumped out of bed (or to be more accurate crawled) I realised that my right knee was giving me serious gyp.
The early morning walk with the dogs on level ground and the movement appeared to ease the discomfort. It is a cracking day and I suggest to Lynnie that we take a saunter up to Victoria Cave again.

Three Peaks Challenge
My favourite destination for a walk is the top of Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales, blog followers will know that I venture to the top frequently despite living well over 250 miles south. My second favourite walk is a tour around Whernside and that only just pips a trip up Pen-y-ghent.
In 2014, to be precise 12th June 2014, I tackled all three in one day. Crosby joined me whilst Lynnie and Dexter relaxed back in Settle. It was a hot sunny day and man and dog got round in just under nine and a half hours. (Crosby would have done it a lot quicker if he had not been dragging me behind him!).

Settle to Winskill Stones
One of the beauties of being close to Settle is that Lynnie can wander off whilst I work away in the awning. There are plenty of places for her to visit and one of her favourite spots is Jane’s bookshop. She usually returns with a bag full of books for us to read.
Yesterday I spent the day in Manchester with a client and have to catch up with some work. So it is after lunch before we think about going out. After spending a few hours in the car yesterday I am keen to walk from Brigholme Farm and there are plenty of options.

Settle to Victoria Cave
Anyone who has followed this blog for a while will know that we have an affection for the Yorkshire Dales. It is a place that we have visited frequently over the years and its undoubtedly my favourite place in the Country.
There are other locations where you get stunning views and good walking. There are also places where you can be assured of a friendly greeting from a total stranger whilst walking down the street, and other spots where the beer is good. But in our travelling experience the one place where you can always guarantee all of these is Settle.

Sidmouth to Weston Mouth
This is the final day of our tour of Devon and we both have key priorities. I want a walk that will involve a few stiff climbs to tune up the lungs and legs for our trip to the Yorkshire Dales in a few weeks time. Whilst Lynnie has her antenna tuned into locating some local ice cream. We agree that Sidmouth will provide an opportunity for both.
It is years since we last visited Sidmouth, I recall it being a stinking hot summers day and the place was absolutely packed and it took us a while to find a parking place. Not wishing to be caught out in this manner again we head for a National Trust car park at the top of Salcombe Hill about a mile out of Sidmouth on the Salcombe Regis road.

Exploring the East Devon Way
After yesterday’s exploits I study the map to plan a walk that we can do from Pidgeon’s Farm CL without coming close to a busy road. The proposed route will mean sections on minor lanes, but with luck these will be quiet.
We turn right out of the site and at the T-junction we turn right again to head towards Woodbury. Soon after entering the village we take a turning on the right onto a lane that leads to the B3179, we go straight across to a lane on the opposite side leading down towards Rydon Farm. Where the lane turns to the right we continue straight on to Rydon Farm and follow this track as it bends its way to a lane at Exton Farm leading to the A376.

Broken Bridge
It is another day when Lynnie is relieved of walking duties, she is meeting with friends from Taunton at Killerton House and spending the day catching up whilst wandering around the house and gardens. I am, therefore, free to jam about with the boys.
I have studied the map and reckon that there is a good walk through lanes and footpaths to a crossing over the River Exe, there I plan to pick up the Exe Valley Way before looping back to Killerton.
