After our walk to Grantham yesterday we are keen to explore a bit more of the countryside so easily accessible from Casthorpe House Farm CL. It is always a pleasure to be able to walk directly from a site and not use the car. With the Grantham Canal so close and a network of paths and tracks it is not too difficult to plan a circular walk. Plan is a loose term, because our walking route is always subject to change in direction and length.

A Gallop to Grantham
Whilst walking we have come across a number of terms to describe an outing. In Norfolk a chap told us it was a cracking afternoon for “jamming about”; then in Durham another old boy told us it was a stunning day for a “gallop”. So today, although it is not a stunning day we are off for a gallop, although a gentle trot might be a more accurate way of describing our pace.

Wandering About in the Vale of Belvoir
We are constantly trying to visit new areas of the Country. There are parts we love to revisit and it is tempting to return to the same locations, but if we adopted that approach we would soon lose the sense of adventure that comes from exploring new areas.

Flower Pot Horses?
We always find leaving the Dales difficult, in the past we have been known to suddenly extend our stay by a few days. But this time around we need to be heading south so reluctantly pack up.
Whilst we have been staying in Settle there has been a wonderful display of flowerpot characters. We have encountered similar events elsewhere over the years and they are usually limited to variations on the Flowerpot Men theme. The good people of Settle have really gone to town and our favourites are a horse and a dalek.
