After a night of heavy rain we start to think about our walk for the day. Whenever we plan a trip to Brigholme Farm CL Lynnie requests we do some new walks, as we only visit once a year I find this difficult. There are so many walks I really love, like the climb to the top of Ingleborough from Clapham, which Lynnie is fed up of and terms a trudge from Gaping Gill to the top. However, there are some walks that Lynnie is happy to repeat. So today I suggest a route through Crummack Dale.

Where Are We?

When the Rain Came
It is no secret that one of our favourite locations is the Yorkshire Dales. I have been visiting the area since a child and it is one of the first places I took Lynnie when we first met. One of our regular stops in the area is Brigholme Farm CL and it felt a bit like coming home when we arrived after six hours travel yesterday.

Pateley Bridge, Lead Mines and Braithwaite Moor
We have just about reached the end of this tour; we have been away fifty nights and have one more before heading back home. Therefore, this is our last day exploring the area and I am keen to return to Pateley Bridge to do another walk from the town.

A Wander Around Ripon
Today our wander out is to do a bit of an explore around Ripon. After the exertions of yesterday Lynnie and Dexter request a shorter walk. As regular blog readers I am more likely to take account of Dexter’s situation than listen to Lynnie. After all these years Lynnie knows how to approach me on such matters, if she were to say “I don’t want to walk to far today” we are bound to be off across a moor and covering at least fifteen miles. Whereas “Dexter looks like he needs an easy day” is likely to result in a steady six or seven mile walk.

Harrogate Ringway
It is in trepidation that I open my eyes this morning. Did I have a terrible dream? Did the EU referendum really result in a vote to leave the EU? All too soon we realise it was true and once again start the day with a serious bout of melancholy. There is only one thing to do and that is get the boots on and go for a good long walk.

A Circular Walk From Pateley Bridge
We wake up to a bright and sunny morning at West Lees Farm CL. We are thoroughly enjoying our stay in Nidderdale and looking forward to heading out to explore around Pateley Bridge. What could possibly happen to spoil such a cracking day in wonderful surroundings?

Jervaulx Abbey
I would have great difficulty in picking my favourite Yorkshire Dale. There are so many to choose from and they have many different features and when they are all so great why pick one or two out as favourites? Last year we stayed close to Richmond and explored Swaledale, which was stunning, now we are really enjoying Nidderdale and in the past, mainly when the children were small, we spent time in the western end of Wensleydale.

A Circular Walk From West Lees Farm CL
One of the features of our travel this year is the amount of work I have been doing as we tour around. I am fortunate that much of it can be done remotely; sitting in the awning in front of my keyboard is not too much of a challenge. Occasionally I can tie in meetings with our travel and today I spent a couple of hours with a client in Ripon.

Fountains Abbey
I first brought Lynnie to the Yorkshire Dales in 1982 and one of the places we visited then was Fountains Abbey. It is a wonderful place and was also beloved by my mother. It is very close to West Lees Farm CL and is top of the list of places to visit whilst in the area.

Brimham Rocks
When we were planning this current trip and deciding on Ripon I was eager to get out the Ordnance Survey maps and check out the places that were a “must visit”. For a long time Lynnie has wanted to visit Harrogate, so that will have to be included, but before that there are a couple of places that we want to revisit and rekindle old memories. Today it is Brimham Rocks.
