Today we decide to walk from the site rather than take the car; I like to have a couple of days each week when I don’t drive. We leave the site by the entrance drive and turn right into the village. Just before the village hall we turn right on a footpath that passes the playing field.

Walking around Grinton’s Lead Mines
Today is our first full day on Scar Close CL; we spent yesterday on the move from Holly Tree Cottage CL. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Upper Denby; the site was top class with a warm welcome and many interesting places to walk. When planning our current tour we sought to identify two new sites to visit as well as staying at two of our favourite CLs.

Jamming About From Settle
It is with much disappointment that we are nearing the end of our stay at Brigholme Farm. We were originally due to depart today, but with a looming work deadline we have stayed an additional day so I can spend another morning toiling over a hot keyboard.

There’s a Storm Brewing
Despite planning earlier in the year to retire I have yet to achieve my aim. The main reason is my inability to say no when someone asks me to do some interesting work. The problem is my clients are doing really good things to support others in society, so when they ask for help in developing something it is hard to refuse.

Another Walk Up Whernside
I am walking on my own again today. When I announced that I fancied a walk up Whernside Lynnie quickly decided there were things she needed to look for in the shops in Settle. My starting point is from the roadside parking at Batty Green, which provides a stunning view of the Ribblehead Viaduct.

A Jamabout from Stainforth to Helwith Bridge
Lynnie has had two days off from walking and whilst there is no guarantee of a dry day today the forecast looks reasonable, so she decides to come on a jamabout. By way of encouragement I have promised a new walk today starting from Stainforth so that we can visit Stainforth Force.

Winskill Stones and Catrigg Force
The wet weather continues and the rain looks set in for most of the day but the dogs still need walking. I don’t mind walking in the rain as long as I have the right gear on. There is something relaxing about being out in rough weather, usually alone in the landscape, as most sensible folk are tucked up in the dry.

A Jamabout to Hull Pot and Pen-y-ghent
It feels like it has been raining ever since our arrival in Settle, apart from the odd break it has been lashing down, but this does not deter us from heading out walking again today. In fact we are hoping the wet weather will give us the opportunity to see water flowing into Hull Pot, a sight we have never seen.

A Walk to Crummack Dale
Yesterday I promised Lynnie a walk through Crummack Dale and then whilst walking decided to alter the route to take a trip over Ingleborough. The pie and pint in the Talbot in Settle last night provided some compensation, but now I need to deliver the walk Lynnie had been expecting. So we are off to Clapham again to complete a curricular walk through Crummack Dale.
