Our stay in Settle has come to an end and tomorrow we head back south to return to work, gardening and a bit of golf, all activities that can be enjoyable but do not compare with a trip to the Dales. This trip has been very special and has included many memorable moments, but none more so than Maurice’s 90th birthday party that ended with the legend himself on stage singing “That’s Life”.

A Special Place with Special People
There is one walk in the Dales that I have tried to do every year for as many years as I can remember and that is the trip up Ingleborough. There was one year when I was working in the north that I made a detour on the journey between Middlesbrough and Liverpool just to walk up it. (more…)

Introducing Toby to the Dales
Yesterday after a couple of days working and just wandering with the dogs around Settle and Giggleswick we took to the hills. Lynnie and I headed off on the circular route that I did a few days ago around Attermire Scar on a recky. Lolly and Toby arrive today and I know that I have to plan bear free walking for Lolly.

Wandering Over Sugar Loaf
After two days on Langcliffe Park Caravan Site we are moving to the Brigholme Farm CL site in Giggleswick for a week. Our preference is for small sites and we rarely stay on big commercial ones. Having said that Langcliffe Park suited us perfectly and we will definitely stay again if there is no vacancy on a smaller site in the area. So we make our shortest ever move between sites (less than three miles).

Stainforth Revisited
When you visit an area as frequently as we visit the Yorkshire Dales it is easy to repeat a walk that was done not so long ago. So today we are repeating a walk last completed in June of last year. Part of me thinks it a bit lazy not exploring a new area, but covering the same ground once or twice a year seems acceptable. In any case we are starting at a different spot and extending the route by a few miles.

Lynnie’s First Ice Cream Of The Season!
On our last visit to the Dales in October 2014 we walked up Whernside twice in a couple of days. On the second occasion, Lolly was staying in the Unicorn with us, and our walk was decidedly cold. It was on yesterday’s itinerary, but the low cloud put us off. Today the sky is clear, there are not many days like this when you can set off safe in the knowledge that it will be fine weather all the way around.

Bleats in the Mist
Regular blog readers will have wondered where we have gone. It has been a while since the last post and that reflects the lack of travel. Having over wintered in Taunton we are now back at home and I am working again, so that has restricted our travel plans. The wanderlust is still there and we are making plans for a couple of lengthy trips in 2015, but for now there will be no extensive touring like 2014.
We debated if we should continue blogging as occasional travellers, but feedback from readers and a look at the website stats provided the incentive to start tapping away on the keyboard again. So here we go.

Farewell To The Dales
After our late night Karaoke exploits none of us two legged caravanners want an early start. However, Crosby has other ideas he has yet to understand the meaning of “lie in”. So I am up to take the boys for an early morning walk.

Memories Are Made Of This!
After yesterdays’ trip up Whernside Lolly requests a walk that does not involve climbing a peak. I suggest the walk from Horton to Hull Pot. Lolly has not been there previously so off we go.

More Cheese Gromit?
There were several reasons why we decided to return to Settle again this year, one of which was that Lolly wanted to catch up with Maurice, Jane and Carl. So when she said that she had a few days holiday to take and wanted to join us in the Unicorn it was soon agreed that our destination would be the Yorkshire Dales.
