When we were planning this trip Lynnie was very clear that she would not be walking up Ingleborough. Whilst accepting my desire to walk this stunning peak at least once a year, she feels that she has been to the top more than enough times. So I was very surprised when she suggested we walk to the top from Ingleton this certainly meets with my approval. We have not previously reached the summit on that route.

A Wander to Warrendale Knotts
Over the years I have done numerous walks around Settle, but I have never visited the trig point on Warrendale Knotts. For years trig points have featured in our walks, but until recently it has been a case of finding one on our route, as opposed to going on a walk with the specific aim of “bagging” a trig.

Walking Ingleborough in the Cloud
Yesterday was a moving day, after ten days at Scar Close CL in Hudswell we headed a few miles further south. It was a pleasant drive through Wensleydale and then down from Hawes to reach our current site, Brigholme Farm CL, Giggleswick. This is a CL we visit annually and most years more than once so the area and walks are familiar to us, but as it is one of our favourite locations in the Country there will be plenty to keep us occupied.

Hudswell to Easby Abbey
When we stayed at Scar Close CL in 2015 we took an enjoyable walk from the site to Easby Abbey to the south east of Richmond. After a couple of days of low cloud the sun is shining and we look as if we are in for a lovely day, but being a cautious chap I still pack the waterproofs into the rucksack, just in case.

Across the Misty Moor from West Burton to Carlton
We appear to be having a few days of low cloud. Yesterday we ventured along Swaledale with the idea of walking to the summit of Great Shunner Fell and then wandering across to Buttertubs, but the visibility was so poor that we ended up doing a few miles up Gunnerside Gill. Unfortunately, the visibility was no better there and we were unable to enjoy the views I had experienced the previous day.

Gunnerside Gill from Surrender Bridge
After yesterday’s walk from Marske Lynnie has decided she and Dexter need a day off. So Crosby and I head to Surrender Bridge where we start our walk from the small parking area overlooking Mill Gill and the disused Surrender Lead Smelting Mill.

A Stunning Seven Miles from Marske
After the exertions of yesterday’s long walk I am under strict instruction that today’s should be no more than seven miles long, include sections of shade, inclines should be kept to a minimum and there should be an ice cream parlour somewhere on route!

Roaming Around From Reeth
So far on this tour we have had really good weather, so it was disappointing to wake to low cloud yesterday. Normally at this time of year such cloud burns off by mid morning, but it was one of those days when it just hung around. I took the dogs out for a couple of miles circuit around Hudswell, but apart from that we did not venture far. So today I am itching to get back into the hills.

Richmond Racecourse from Hudswell
Today we decide to walk from the site rather than take the car; I like to have a couple of days each week when I don’t drive. We leave the site by the entrance drive and turn right into the village. Just before the village hall we turn right on a footpath that passes the playing field.

Walking around Grinton’s Lead Mines
Today is our first full day on Scar Close CL; we spent yesterday on the move from Holly Tree Cottage CL. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Upper Denby; the site was top class with a warm welcome and many interesting places to walk. When planning our current tour we sought to identify two new sites to visit as well as staying at two of our favourite CLs.
