  • Boggy Walking on Blea Moor and Dodd Fell

Boggy Walking on Blea Moor and Dodd Fell

Whilst studying the map last night I was intrigued by the footpath that crosses Blea Moor following the route of the tunnel that carries the Settle to Carlisle railway line.  So today I am heading off to Ribblehead to explore the route.

  • Giggleswick Common from Brigholme Farm CL

Giggleswick Common from Brigholme Farm CL

Today I am heading out from Brigholme Farm CL to bag another trig point and visit Giggleswick Common, an area I have not previously visited.  I had thought I had bagged all the trig points within walking distance of this CL, but scanning the map last night I realised I did not have the complete set.

  • Around Totridge Fell, Bleadale Water and Langden Brook

Around Totridge Fell, Bleadale Water and Langden Brook

Whilst staying at Brigholme Farm CL I usually walk in the local area. I have rarely headed towards the Trough of Bowland over the border in Lancashire. It’s not that far away, but I was put off walking there a few years ago when I set off with the dogs only to discover that parts of the access land prohibit dogs other than on footpaths. My route that day was a clear track, both dogs were on short leads, but the signs made it clear it was not a footpath and dogs were not allowed. To avoid a similar situation I am leaving Crosby behind today and walking solo.

  • Yorkshire Three Peaks from the Hill Inn

Yorkshire Three Peaks from the Hill Inn

After my early morning walk with the dogs I am soon out again for an early start to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks.  This is a walk that I have done on three previous occasions each time starting from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, but today I am going to start from a small layby (Grid Ref SD745777) on the B6255 a few hundred yards past the Hill Inn.

  • Winskill Stones from Langcliffe

    Winskill Stones from Langcliffe

One of Lynnie’s favourite places in the Dales is Winskill Stones.  It is a spot we have walked to on a number of occasions from Brigholme Farm CL.  However, because Dexter is struggling with longer walks we are going to do a short version today and start from the delightful village of Langcliffe.

  • Bagging a Trig on Smearsett Scar

Bagging a Trig on Smearsett Scar

It was soon after we got our first caravan in 2012 that we made our first visit to Brigholme Farm CL, since then we have stayed for over a fortnight at least once a year.  I have, therefore, walked many of the routes and paths around here but surprisingly there are still a couple of trig points within walking distance that I have yet to “bag”.  Today I plan to rectify that by knocking one off the list.

  • Along the Ribble Way and up to Attermire Scar

Along the Ribble Way and up to Attermire Scar

I am sure that I am not alone within the walking community in finding pleasure in just sitting and studying an OS Map, my collection of Outdoor Explorer Maps now stands at 186 and I can pick one from the bookshelf and immediately recall the walk I did in that area.

  • A Cracking Walk to Ingleborough and Moughton Scar

A Cracking Walk to Ingleborough and Moughton Scar

It is a cracking day and one where I am going to walk on my own with Crosby.  These days Dexter cannot cope with long walks on hot days so he and Lynnie are going to stay around the caravan.  When visiting this area it is always a certainty that I will walk up Ingleborough at least once, the only question is how soon after our arrival.  This time it is within 24 hours!

  • A Circuit to Langcliffe

    A Circuit to Langcliffe

After five nights at Hall Croft CL we have moved on to Brigholme Farm in Giggleswick, just the other side of the River Ribble from Settle.  This is a CL we have stayed on many times and the trip up from Ilkley does not take us long, so I am soon lacing up my boots to head out for a walk with Crosby.

  • On Ilkley Moor

    On Ilkley Moor

A trip to Ilkley would not be complete without a walk on Ilkley Moor, as we all know the moor became famous as the inspiration for the folk song “On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at” and it is almost impossible to think of the moor without the lyrics of the song coming into your head.
