On our last visit to the Dales in October 2014 we walked up Whernside twice in a couple of days. On the second occasion, Lolly was staying in the Unicorn with us, and our walk was decidedly cold. It was on yesterday’s itinerary, but the low cloud put us off. Today the sky is clear, there are not many days like this when you can set off safe in the knowledge that it will be fine weather all the way around.

Bleats in the Mist
Regular blog readers will have wondered where we have gone. It has been a while since the last post and that reflects the lack of travel. Having over wintered in Taunton we are now back at home and I am working again, so that has restricted our travel plans. The wanderlust is still there and we are making plans for a couple of lengthy trips in 2015, but for now there will be no extensive touring like 2014.
We debated if we should continue blogging as occasional travellers, but feedback from readers and a look at the website stats provided the incentive to start tapping away on the keyboard again. So here we go.

Farewell To The Dales
After our late night Karaoke exploits none of us two legged caravanners want an early start. However, Crosby has other ideas he has yet to understand the meaning of “lie in”. So I am up to take the boys for an early morning walk.

Memories Are Made Of This!
After yesterdays’ trip up Whernside Lolly requests a walk that does not involve climbing a peak. I suggest the walk from Horton to Hull Pot. Lolly has not been there previously so off we go.

More Cheese Gromit?
There were several reasons why we decided to return to Settle again this year, one of which was that Lolly wanted to catch up with Maurice, Jane and Carl. So when she said that she had a few days holiday to take and wanted to join us in the Unicorn it was soon agreed that our destination would be the Yorkshire Dales.

Avoiding the Rain
On our travels it has been unusual for me to do the same walk twice, but a combination of stormy weather and catching up on some work has meant that today we repeat the walk of last Sunday.

The Finest Walk in the Dales!
In my humble opinion there is no better walk than climbing Ingleborough from Clapham. It is a walk that I have done many times, but not in the last few years. Recently my annual ascent has been via Horton in Ribblesdale. So after my tour of the Three Peaks Brewery I drive to Clapham and park in the Yorkshire Dales National Park car park. There are spaces on the road in the village, but since my last visit, signs have been erected requesting visitors use the car park.

Three Peaks Brewery
You may recall that when visiting The Talbot Arms on our arrival in Settle last weekend I got into conversation with some locals and was invited to visit the Three Peaks Brewery on Saturday morning. I did not need asking twice!

Whernside Wander
Of the three Yorkshire Peaks, the one that I have walked the most is Ingleborough. I have not kept a record but I must have been up there close to twenty times, whereas, Penyghent I have scaled almost a dozen times and Whernside half a dozen.

Limestone Cowboy
There is always something special about walking in the Dales and I could never tire of any walk that provides a view of Ribblehead Viaduct. As regular followers will know Lynnie and I have walked in this area for years, but we continually find new footpaths and areas to explore for the first time.
