My walk a few days ago along a section of the Montgomery Canal whetted my appetite to explore another section of this waterway. It is another hot day so I leave it until late afternoon to hop in the car with Crosby and head off to drive the few miles to just outside of Welshpool.

Horseshoe Falls to Llangollen
One of the reasons for returning to this area is for Lynnie to visit the Horseshoe Falls at Berwyn. I visited when I was away on my own last year and when Lynnie saw the pictures she decided it was a somewhere she wanted to go. It is another warm day so Dexter will not want to walk too far, but he should be able to manage a stroll along the canal from the Falls to Llangollen.

The Berwyns from Llandrillo
Last year when I stayed on Domo CL I was talking to the owner Chris about walks locally and told him I was intending to walk up Cadair Berwyn. He immediately referred to the “Boggy Berwyn’s” and warned me this was an apt name for the mountains. Sadly my stay was cut short last year when Crosby became lame, so I did not get the chance to find out if Chris was correct.

Rodney’s Pillar
From Domo CL there are stunning views; in the distance we can see the distinctive Breidden Hill with Criggion Quarry. Looking through the binoculars I can see the Rodney’s Pillar Monument standing high on the hill. Lynnie knows it is bound to be only a matter of time before I am going to walk up this hill and today is the day.

The Montgomery Canal and Impassable Footpaths
After my walk this morning with Lynnie and the dogs I am heading off on a walk on my own, this is unusual but it is going to be a hot afternoon and I plan to walk a few lengthy sections on tarmac country lanes and I don’t want Crosby burning his paws.

A Short Walk in the Candy Valley
Today I have two walks planned. Later this afternoon I will be heading out to try and “bag” an Ordnance Survey trig point, it is a warm day and the walk will involve a couple of stretches on roads so I am going to leave Crosby with Lynnie and Dexter. So this morning we are all going on a short walk from Domo CL.

A Circuit from Domo CL to Trefonen and Rhydycroesau
Today I am going to walk direct from the caravan site. Domo CL is ideally located for easy access to some interesting walks and I plan to explore some of the tracks and lanes in the local area.

Returning to the Llantysilio Mountain from the Horseshoe Falls
Whilst staying at Domo CL in July of last year I did a cracking walk up the Llantysilio Mountain from the Horseshoe Falls in Berwyn, as I am walking on my own today I decide to venture there again. It is a warm day and walking up mountains is beyond Dexter these days so he and Lynnie are in for a relaxing day on the caravan site.

Castell Dinas Bran and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
We were last away in the caravan in early May so it is almost eight weeks since we last hitched up and set off. A lot has happened in those few weeks. We have been to two family weddings, including the marriage of our daughter Lolly to our new son-in-law Toby; our son Ben has been home to stay from Norway for ten days, we have finally made our choices on a new kitchen and I have a new tow car.

A Circuit Around the Lanes From Domo CL
When I took Crosby out early this morning he was limping. Initially I thought he had something stuck in one of his paws, I had a good look but couldn’t see anything. However, on closer inspection I noticed he had tar from yesterday’s walk stuck to his pads so we have enjoyed a leisurely morning around the caravan whilst he rests up.
