Another day when I have meetings in London, but this time Lynnie joins me for the trip so that we can combine work and pleasure. From the moment that the first poppies appeared at the Tower of London Lynnie has said that she wanted to join the masses and pay a visit. Now with time running out she joins me on the train from Salisbury to Waterloo.

Look Right, Left and Right Again!
After months of travelling the Country I find myself travelling to London from Taunton this is a trip that I did frequently in the past when I worked near Old Street. Despite having worked in London for much of my working life I dislike travelling on the tube, much preferring to catch a bus or walk. I used to catch the 205 from Paddington to Old Street – I accept that this was not the quickest way to travel but at least for me it was stress free.

Tovi the Proud
Today our afternoon walk is a jaunt from the Cholsey Grange site. We head up the farm drive and at the top turn left, along the road through part of Ibstone towards Fingest. Just past the school we turn right to walk down hill and after the sharp bend take the footpath on the left. This is the opposite direction to the route I walked on my return from Turville on Friday.

Anyone for Cricket?
One of the challenges of our new lifestyle is overcoming the temptation of feeling the need to see something new everyday, as you do on holiday. Over the last week or so we have decided that we have enjoyed this summer so much that we will do the same next year, albeit visiting some different locations. One place we will revisit is Cholsey Grange CL. It is very convenient for seeing Lolly and Toby plus it is such a great site. So today we decide to have a chill day and do very little.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Yesterday morning whilst packing to leave the Peak District we were listening to Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show. We are both fans of this radio programme and Lynnie will not get out of bed before I have switched it on and put the kettle on to boil.
Anyway, Chris asked the question, “What three films would you want to watch over and over again?” There is no doubt for me that if I had to choose one it would be Mary Poppins, a heart-rending tale of parenthood and I have yet to get by the bit where the wind changes without crying (you may think I am joking but just ask Lynnie or Lolly!), another favourite is Brassed Off again there is a need to keep the box of tissues close by, then I struggle because there are three films that I would have difficulty to choose between, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Calamity Jane and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Fortunately I don’t have to make the decision, but as you can tell I am up to date with the film industry.

Lollipop
After all our preparation yesterday we get an early start. We have spent the last week on Blackwell Hall CL, the views are stunning and all the pitches have hard standing. It is one of those sites where you have to go and find the owners and we have not seen them on the site all week. There is also a lack of any local information. It is not that we want to be told what to do, but sometimes it is good to have someone around to impart their local knowledge.

Fred 2 v 0 Awning
Up early, as it’s moving day. Out with the dogs for a brisk stroll and then back to the van to prepare for departure. In my teens I suffered from migraines, but thankfully they stopped. Then in my late forties they returned. I wish I knew why and what the trigger was, but when they come they render me useless for an hour or so and thereafter I have a thumping headache. Perhaps it was the thought of doing battle with the awning, but for some reason today is a day that is to be blighted by a migraine.

Frensham Little Pond
When we started caravanning we soon worked out that we would have allocated duties. Generally, but not exclusively, if it is something inside the Unicorn it falls into Lyn’s domain. Whereas, the awning and all the water jobs are mostly mine and, lucky me, I have exclusive rights over emptying the chemical toilet.

Down Memory Lane
Crosby gives us an early morning alarm call, the sun is up and he wants to be out to sniff the spring air. There is no way that Lyn is venturing from the comfort of her bed, so map in hand and boots on off we go at 6.45.

Donkeys at Dusk
After the trauma of wrestling the awning the previous day, Wednesday is a day for catching up. An appointment takes us back to Salisbury and this provides the opportunity to jettison more excess baggage. We pop back to Pitton, Dexter and Crosby are taken for a familiar walk and to Crosby’s delight the brace of partridges that he was stalking a couple of weeks ago are awaiting his arrival. Dexter quickly learnt that once a partridge, or pheasant, is airborne there is no point in expending further energy. The younger Crosby still thinks that if he chases for fifty yards his efforts will be rewarded.
