  • Bagging a Trig Point from Cholsey Grange CL

Bagging a Trig Point from Cholsey Grange CL

We have enjoyed many visits to Cholsey Grange CL but I have yet to spot a trig point in this area.  To be honest I have not gone looking, but usually they spring up all over the place.  A chat with Ted, the CL owner, fails to shed any light.  So it is time to study the OS map to see where the nearest one might be.

  • Sixty Up!

    Sixty Up!

After twelve days at home we are on the road again.  The weather has been really hot and the prolonged dry spell is starting to show its effects on the countryside. The positive is that the grass in the garden is not growing, but the negative has been the moorland fires.  We were particularly saddened to see the pictures of the fires around Saddleworth Moor.  It was just over month ago that we were walking there, it was dry then, to see the devastation and impact on the wildlife is heart breaking.

  • A Chiltern Jamabout to Ewelme

    A Chiltern Jamabout to Ewelme

A few days ago I walked part of the Ridgeway close to Watlington, this was an area that I have not previously explored so today Lynnie and I are heading over that way to start our walk.  It is a pleasant drive through the lanes to our starting point, which is a small area of parking besides the lane leading to Dame Alice Farm.

  • A Short Stroll from Cholsey Grange

A Short Stroll from Cholsey Grange

We are nearing the end of our stay at Cholsey Grange CL, it is amazing how the time has flown. The weather on this year’s trip has not been as good as previous stays, but we have still thoroughly enjoyed our time. After one last ride on Ted’s mower to ensure the site is pristine for his return I lace up the boots to head out for a short stroll with Lynnie and the dogs.

  • A Thirteen Mile Circuit from Cholsey Grange

A Thirteen Mile Circuit from Cholsey Grange

After so many days resting my foot I feel in need of a good walk. Unless I get at least three hours walking a day I start getting twitchy. Crosby is equally keen, but as Dexter gets older he quite likes restful days, especially if it means he can spend more time lying in the back of the open car observing the world.

  • A Short Jamabout from Cholsey Grange

A Short Jamabout from Cholsey Grange

After a couple of longer walks at the end of last week my foot has been playing up again, so over the weekend I have restricted myself to shorter walks around the woods near Cholsey Grange CL.  Today I am not going to venture too far but part of the walk is over a route I have not previously covered.

  • Along the Thames from Marlow to Bourne End

Along the Thames from Marlow to Bourne End

When staying at Cholsey Grange CL we do most of our walking direct from the site.  Usually if we drive somewhere for a walk it is to a spot besides the River Thames.  I have walked a few sections of the Thames Path and today I plan to do a few miles between Marlow and Bourne End.

  • Back at Aston Rowant Nature Reserve

Back at Aston Rowant Nature Reserve

On previous visits to Cholsey Grange we have enjoyed walking to Aston Rowant Nature Reserve and as my foot is continuing to improve I think I can manage this nine and a half mile walk.  Lynnie is staying with Lolly and Toby so unusually the dogs and I have had a night on our own in the caravan. • Stags in the Corn

    Stags in the Corn

I am walking on my own again today, it is Lynnie’s birthday and she is out with our daughter Lolli for the afternoon.  My heel was less painful this morning as I went about my duties on Cholsey Grange CL so I have decided to venture a little further whilst still resisting the temptation for a good jamabout.

  • The White Hind

    The White Hind

I am still struggling with the pain in my heel, the restrictions on my walking are becoming tedious, but I know I need to rest it to give it a chance of recovering.  I do not want to be limited in my choice of walks in the Yorkshire Dales come September.
