We have reached the final day of our tour to Hereford the weather has been cracking. In fact too hot for us on a couple of days but it is slightly cooler today making it perfect for a trip back to Llanthony for a walk in the Black Mountains.

Fownhope, Capler Camp and Paget’s Wood
It appears that I am the flavour of the month for nasty bitey things. When we were away in Ripon a few weeks ago some horrible fly decided to take a bite of my arm, this required a couple for days of antihistamines to calm it down. This trip, whilst walking in Mordiford something horrible had three goes at my chest and I am back on the Piriton, unfortunately, it makes me a bit drowsy (especially when taken with Guinness) so we make a slow start today.

Longtown Castle
We have been fortunate with the weather on this trip, it is another warm and sunny day. Too hot for a mammoth trek. We might be able to cope but Mr Dexter struggles in the heat so we need to be sensible on days when it gets too hot. Lynnie and I are not too good either when the temperature climbs above 24 degrees. It is surprising how I talk about temperature in Centigrade rather than Fahrenheit (when did that happen?), what I should have said was we struggle over 75 degrees.

Mordiford and Haugh Woods
For a long time I have been saying that I am going to reduce the amount of work I take on but Lyn keeps reminding me that I am not good at saying no. Especially when the assignment is working with an organisation that brings real value to society and helps develop communities. So today the sun is shining, it is a cracking day but I am busy working until mid afternoon. The dogs are not bothered, they are recovering from their trek in the Black Mountains yesterday and happy sleeping in the sun.

A Walk from Llanthony to Bal-Mawr and Capel-y-Ffin
Since arriving at Ashley Farm CL my morning walk has provided distant views of the Black Mountains, so far it has been too hot to contemplate walking up them but the forecast for today is a bit cooler. It looks like the perfect day for a climb.

Visiting Rotherwas and Meeting Sir Edward Elgar
It is forecast to be another hot day, not as unbearably hot as yesterday but still towards 30 degrees. I take the dogs out in the cool of the early morning, repeating the route we did on our first day here. As it is so warm we decide to avoid being in the car today and walk from the site instead.

Arriving at Ashley Farm CL
After a busy two and half weeks at home we are back on the road. It took some adjusting to live back in our house following our recent seven and a half week trip away in the Coachman.

Pateley Bridge, Lead Mines and Braithwaite Moor
We have just about reached the end of this tour; we have been away fifty nights and have one more before heading back home. Therefore, this is our last day exploring the area and I am keen to return to Pateley Bridge to do another walk from the town.

A Wander Around Ripon
Today our wander out is to do a bit of an explore around Ripon. After the exertions of yesterday Lynnie and Dexter request a shorter walk. As regular blog readers I am more likely to take account of Dexter’s situation than listen to Lynnie. After all these years Lynnie knows how to approach me on such matters, if she were to say “I don’t want to walk to far today” we are bound to be off across a moor and covering at least fifteen miles. Whereas “Dexter looks like he needs an easy day” is likely to result in a steady six or seven mile walk.

A Circular Walk From Pateley Bridge
We wake up to a bright and sunny morning at West Lees Farm CL. We are thoroughly enjoying our stay in Nidderdale and looking forward to heading out to explore around Pateley Bridge. What could possibly happen to spoil such a cracking day in wonderful surroundings?
