The trip to Battle from Romney Marsh should have been straightforward. However, due to a road closure we had to head east before turning back along the coast. At the best of times a road closure can be annoying, but with over 24 feet of caravan behind you it certainly adds a bit of stress to a journey.

Historic Hythe – Dexter and Crosby Share an Ice Cream!
Having parked at Sandgate to walk to Folkestone a few days ago we decide to head there again and walk in the opposite direction towards Hythe. We have driven through the town on a couple of occasions but the road does not go through the old part of the town and we are keen to explore a bit.

Dungeness and Camber Sands
Our visit to Dungeness two days ago was curtailed by darkness so we vowed to return before leaving the area. Our aim is to just wander about and get a feel for the unique atmosphere of this place. We have certainly never visited anywhere else quite like this in the UK.

Fantastic Folkestone
We are thoroughly enjoying our first tour of this part of the country. The weather has been excellent and each day brings another fascinating discovery. Earlier in the year whilst walking the Fife Coast Lynnie mentioned that since we started our travels back in 2014 we must have covered a considerable section of coastline and came up with the idea of getting a big map and colouring in the parts we have walked. That sounds like a project for the dark winter months.

Dymchurch to Littleton-on-Sea and More…
After yesterday’s wander around the north edge of Romney Marsh we have decided to head towards the coast and see what that has to offer. It is about four miles from Bellfield Farm CL to Dymchurch, most folk would hop in their car to make the trip but we lace up our boots and head off.

Jamming About on Romney Marsh
One of the pleasures of travelling as we do is the ability to explore a small area of the country in some detail. I like days where we don’t use the car this enables us to really get a feel for an area and has the advantage of no traffic. Today’s exploration is from Bellfield Farm CL and from a look at the map does not look too challenging. There are no hills in this part of the country. (more…)

An Afternoon Stroll from Frant to Eridge Green
It is another cracking day; in previous years we have had good weather caravanning in September but this is one of the best. After my morning walk and chores, which are interspersed with chats with our caravanning neighbours it is time to head out for the day.

Walking to Wadhurst
It is surprising how few books we read whilst travelling, when I was commuting to work in London I would get through a book a week without any trouble. Now it takes me months to read a book, perhaps it is due to my change in taste of reading material (can you have a change in taste in reading?), but also the lack of time. I now tend to read at the end of the day and invariably fall asleep.

A Walk Around Bewl Water
When looking at a map to plan a walk there are two things likely to grab my attention. The first is a big hill (as long as it does not have any precipitous drops), the other is a large lake or reservoir. In this part of the country there are not too many large hills but, as we discovered a few days ago, there is an attractive reservoir very close by!

A Cracking Six Mile Walk from Cholsey Grange CL
One of the joys of travelling as much as we do is that you have a constantly changing view from the caravan window. It also means we are privileged to see some fantastic sunsets and yesterday evening’s was a stunner.
